Special Orders: Deposits & Cancellations

Some of the best pieces in the store are not sitting in a warehouse waiting for you. They get built after you order them — your fabric, your leather, your wood, your finish, your configuration. That is the whole point. It also means the rules work differently than grabbing something off the floor.

You pay in full when you order

Special orders are paid in full at the time of order. Not a deposit. The whole amount, up front.

Here is why. Your piece does not exist yet. The moment your order goes to the shop floor, someone starts cutting wood and fabric to your spec. That material and that labor are committed to you and nobody else. Paying up front is what lets us commit on your behalf.

Changing your mind

Life happens. If you need to change or cancel a special order, call us right away — the sooner you call, the more we can do. The cancellation window and terms live in one place: our Refund Policy.

Lead times, by line

• Minnesota Rustic (made to order): 3 to 5 weeks
• Amish lines (made to order): 4 to 8 weeks
• Most other furniture lines, including My Cloud: 1 to 2 weeks
• Mattresses: 7 to 10 days

The clock starts when the order goes in — not the day you first came in to look. These are our honest working estimates; if a maker runs long, we will call you rather than leave you guessing. We will call you when yours lands.

Changing your order

Fabric, finish, wood, configuration — all of it is locked once the maker starts cutting. Before that, we can usually still move things around.

Call us the moment you have second thoughts. The sooner you call, the more we can usually do.

When it arrives

We will call you to schedule pickup or delivery. Look it over carefully when it comes in — open every box, check every surface. If something is wrong, tell us right away. See our damage claims page for how that works.

Made-to-order is not the same as off the floor

A floor piece can go back to the floor. A sofa built in your fabric, in your configuration, cannot — there is no next customer waiting for exactly that. That is the honest tradeoff for getting exactly what you want.

Not sure? Talk to us first

Take the fabric swatch home. Look at it in your own light, at night and in the morning. Measure your doorway, your stairwell, and the corner it has to turn. We would rather spend twenty extra minutes with a tape measure than build the wrong thing beautifully.
