Warranty Terms
Warranty Terms
Short version: the manufacturer warrants the product. We help you use that warranty. Here is exactly where the line sits.
Everything we sell is new
We never sell used beds. Every mattress in this store is new, sealed, and shipped to us by the manufacturer. We do not sell used, refurbished, renovated, or reconditioned bedding. Not on clearance, not as a floor model swap, not ever.
That matters for your warranty. A manufacturer warranty only belongs to the original purchaser of a new mattress. Because we sell new, your warranty is real from the day it is delivered.
Your proof is the law tag sewn onto the side. Minnesota Statute 325F.31 requires it to state whether the article is made of new or secondhand material. Yours says new. Leave it on. More on that on our Mattress Comfort Exchange & the Law Tag page.
How long the coverage runs
- Minnesota Rustic — limited lifetime warranty. Every made-to-order piece in the log, barnwood, and sawtooth hickory lines is built by Viking Log Furniture in St. Joseph, Minnesota, and carries the maker's limited lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship, for the original owner, from the date you buy it. Viking repairs or replaces at their option. Freight to and from their factory is not covered. Abuse, modification, and damage from heat or humidity swings fall outside it — see keeping the warranty good below. Built to outlast the warranty anyway.
- Mattresses — 10 years. Beautyrest, Serta, and BeautySleep, straight from the manufacturer. Details below.
- Everything else — 1 year against manufacturer defects.
A note on live edge: live-edge slabs are real, dramatic wood, and real wood moves. Seam cracks are covered — a split along a glue joint is a defect and we will make it right. Seasonal cracks are not — the fine surface checking that opens and closes as the slab adjusts to your home's humidity is the nature of the material, not a flaw. A humidifier in winter keeps it happy.
Minnesota Rustic: keeping the warranty good
Solid wood asks for a little in return. Viking's warranty expects these four things, so we pass them straight to you.
- Dust with lemon oil and a soft cotton cloth. Skip anything with silicone in it.
- Keep solvents off the finish — nail polish remover, harsh cleaners, the usual suspects.
- Tighten the bolts now and then. Wood moves as humidity swings; a snug frame stays square.
- Don't park it against a heat source. Registers, radiators, wood stoves.
Claims come through us. Call the store with your receipt and a few photos and we file it with Viking for you.
Manufacturer warranties pass straight through to you
Everything new we sell comes with the manufacturer's own warranty. We pass it to you in full. We do not shorten it and we cannot extend it. The warranty document that comes with your piece is the final word on the fine print. If you cannot find yours, call us and we will track it down.
Mattresses: 10 years from the manufacturer
Our mattress brands — Beautyrest, Serta, and BeautySleep — carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty.
That is exactly why we do not sell a mattress protection plan. You already have ten years of coverage. Selling you a plan on top of it would be selling you something you already own. We would rather you spend that money on a good protector and a decent pillow.
Mattress warranties generally cover manufacturing defects: body impressions deeper than the manufacturer's stated limit, sagging that is not caused by a bad foundation, and flaws in materials or workmanship. The impression-depth limit varies by brand and model — it is printed in your warranty document, and we will look yours up if you call.
They generally do not cover comfort preference, normal softening over time, stains, burns, damage from an unsupported frame or foundation, or a mattress with the law tag removed.
Keep the law tag on. No tag, no warranty claim. Every manufacturer treats it that way.
What happens to the old mattress on an approved claim
We bring the replacement. We take the defective mattress away. Then it is discarded.
It does not go back on the showroom floor. It does not get marked down. It does not get cleaned up, refurbished, or resold to anyone, at any price. It is disposed of, and that is the end of it.
Two reasons. First, Minnesota Statute 325F.29 makes it a misdemeanor to sell, offer, deliver, or even hold secondhand bedding for sale unless it has been sterilized under the process in section 325F.28 — and we are a retailer of new bedding, not a bedding renovator. Second, and simpler: we would not want to. Nobody should ever have to wonder whose bed they bought.
Adjustable bases
Adjustable bases carry the manufacturer's warranty. Length and coverage vary by model — motor, frame, remote, and electronics are each spelled out in the warranty document for your base, and we will walk you through yours before you buy.
Protection plans are optional and separate
A protection plan is not a warranty. It is an add-on you can buy that covers things a manufacturer warranty never covers, like accidents. It does not replace your warranty, and your warranty does not go away if you skip it.
- 5-Year Furniture Plan — $89 to $599, priced by the total of what you are buying.
- 10-Year Adjustable Base Plan — $119 for a single base, $179 for dual.
- No mattress plan, on purpose. The 10-year manufacturer warranty already has it covered. We are not going to charge you twice for the same ten years.
Full plan terms, coverage, and exclusions are in the plan paperwork you get at purchase — read it before you buy, and ask us anything.

What we do versus what the manufacturer does
The manufacturer decides warranty claims. Not us. We are the ones in your corner while they do it.
What we do:
- Help you figure out whether what you are seeing is actually a warranty issue
- Put the claim together — photos, receipt, model and law tag info
- File it with the manufacturer and stay on them
- Schedule an in-home inspection if the manufacturer wants one
- Handle the swap or the repair once it is approved, and haul the defective mattress off for disposal — call us and we will arrange the delivery details with you
What the manufacturer does:
- Approves or denies the claim — the decision is theirs alone
- Decides whether it gets repaired, replaced, or credited
- Sets the standard for what counts as a defect
We will argue your corner. We cannot overrule them. We would rather tell you that up front than let you find out mid-claim.
Hang on to these
- Your receipt. Proof of purchase date starts the warranty clock. We can usually pull it up, but keeping yours is faster.
- The law tag on your mattress. Do not cut it off. It is required by Minnesota law to stay on, it is your proof the mattress is new, and it is your ticket to a warranty claim.
- A clean product. Manufacturers can and do deny claims on soiled mattresses and furniture. A mattress protector is cheap insurance on a ten-year warranty.
